Dunbar Library by the Numbers

September 10, 2026

Did you know . . . over 234,000 people visited the Dunbar Library last year? Some were repeat library users and some were new to campus. Some came for the coffee and many stayed to use library resources, work in our study rooms and media studios, meet with a librarian, or attend an event. The Library Statistics dashboard illustrates how often library services and collections are used and who is using them.

Information Supplied

A pie chart showing which user groups asked questions at the library's Information Desk

Staff at the library’s Information Desk answer questions about research, databases, finding library materials and more. Over half of these questions come from undergraduate and graduate students, but questions are answered for faculty, staff, community members, and alumni also.

Questions are answered in person, over the phone, via chat, and through e-mail. Over 4,500 questions were answered in 2025!

Students and faculty with in-depth research questions are referred to their subject librarian for consultation where they learn about search strategies, applicable library materials and resources, and crafting their research questions.

One of the most popular services offered at the Dunbar Library are our study rooms. Space is available for group study, silent study, and media creation.

In 2024 the library's Group Study rooms were refurbished with updated technology and murals. How often are they used? There were over 3,000 Group Study room bookings in 2025!

The library's seven Silent Study rooms offer space for students to concentrate and focus. In 2025, students spent over 9,800 hours in the Silent Study rooms.

Two media studios, equipped with technology to create and edit audio and video are located in the library's Student Technology Assistance Center (STAC). The STAC Studios were booked over 800 times in 2025.

Questions Answered

A column chart showing the number of questions answered for the last 5 years at the library's circulation desk

The library’s circulation desk answered over 12,000 questions in 2025! Everything from “how do I find my professor’s course reserves?” to “I need a calculator for my exam in 10 minutes—can you help??” For each question asked, library staff have an answer—or a referral to the department that can help.

Staffed 98 hours per week, the library's circulation desk is open later than other university offices. Library staff are experts at referring students and helping them connect with the campus services they need.

Supplying students with everything from books and media to technology equipment and maker kits, library staff at the circulation desk work to meet student needs.

Collections Developed

A line chart illustrating the library's growing collection of electronic resources

Wright State students are busy and need access to research materials on demand. Library staff build the library’s collections to meet this need by purchasing eBooks, eJournals, and databases that students and faculty can use both on-campus and off-campus. The count of electronic library materials continues to grow as the library builds its collections to meet student needs.

Library staff work to ensure students have easy access through the library's website--which acts as a portal to all library resources.
