What is the "SuDocs System"?
The "SuDocs System" was devised by staff at the Library of the Government Printing Office. Materials are grouped together by issuing agency. The classification system signifies departments, bureaus, and agencies by letter. The departments are subdivided by number according to the hierarchical structure of the Government.
The combination of letters and numbers reflects the structure of the government at the time the document was released. Since the structure changes subsequent documents are not always located near the originals. [tell me more about what the SuDocs codes stand for]
